WWBOTA Lifetime Awards
Background
This award is the ‘original’ WWBOTA award. Contacts are valid for WWBOTA QSO from 1st October 2023. This award is unchanged.
The WWBOTA Lifetime Awards recognize operators who demonstrate long-term dedication to bunker activations and hunting across international boundaries. This lifetime achievement award celebrates sustained participation in the WWBOTA community and encourages cross-border bunker operations.
Key Distinction: This award is based on working between national schemes (e.g., UKBOTA, OKBOTA, LABOTA, etc.) rather than DXCC entities, providing recognition for working or activating bunkers across different national bunkers schemes.
Requirement:
- For Hunters: Must work bunkers outside the national scheme area they are hunting from. QSO with bunkers in the same national scheme area are not valid for this award/
- For Activators (B2B): Bunker-to-bunker QSOs must be between different national schemes. B2B QSO within the same national scheme area are not valid for this award.
This award is designed to reward:
- Long-term dedication and accumulated experience
- Inter national scheme international bunker operations
- Building relationships across international bunker schemes
- Sustained participation over years or decades
National Awards: These WWBOTA Awards are complementary to those awards run and issued by national xxBOTA schemes. The rules within these awards neither imply or specify either changes to national rules.
Award Type
Lifetime Achievement Award:
- No annual reset – progress accumulates over the operator’s lifetime
- Each unique bunker can only be claimed once in a lifetime
Scoring System
Bunker Uniqueness: Each bunker can only be claimed once in a lifetime, regardless of how many times it is worked or activated.
Multi-Bunker Activations: When multiple bunkers are activated simultaneously (2fer, 3fer, 4fer, 5fer), each bunker (and for B2B, each combination) counts for scoring purposes.
Award Categories and Tiers
Category 1: HUNTER/SWL
Working bunkers outside the national scheme area being operated from:
Scoring Rules:
- Work bunkers outside the national scheme area being operated from
- Example: If you are a French hunter operating from France, French bunkers do not count for this award but QSOs with German bunkers do
- Each bunker may only be claimed once in a lifetime
- In the case of multi-bunker activations, one point may be claimed for each bunker worked
- Example: If an Belgian hunter works an Irish station activating B/EI-0001 AND B/EI-0002 at the same time, two points can be claimed
- 1 point per bunker
Award Tiers:
- Bronze: 100 bunkers
- Silver: 250 bunkers
- Gold: 500 bunkers
- Platinum: 1,000 bunkers
- Diamond: 1,500 bunkers
- Master (1): 2,000 bunkers
- Master (2): 2,500 bunkers
- Master (3): 3,000 bunkers
Category 2: Activator B2B
Bunker-to-bunker QSOs between different national schemes:
Scoring Rules:
- This award is gained for working Bunker-to-Bunker QSOs with bunkers in another national scheme
- Example: A QSO between a bunker in UKBOTA and UKBOTA does not count, but a bunker-to-bunker UKBOTA to OKBOTA does count
- Where more than one bunker is activated at the same time on either side of the B2B QSO, all combinations score
- Example: If a UK activation is from 2 bunkers at the same time, and a Belgian activation is from 5 bunkers at the same time, then a total of 10 points are scored by each activator (2 × 5 = 10 combinations)
- Each bunker-to-bunker combination can only be claimed once in a lifetime
- 1 point per B2B QSO combination
- In addition to Activator B2B points, the activator also score one Hunter point for each new bunker worked.
Award Tiers:
- Bronze: 50 combinations
- Silver: 100 combinations
- Gold: 250 combinations
- Platinum: 500 combinations
- Diamond: 750 combinations
- Master (1): 1,000 combinations
- Master (2): 1,500 combinations
- Master (3): 2,000 combinations
Award Rules
Confirmation Requirements
- All contacts must be logged in WWBOTA Logger
- Claims submitted via WWBOTA Logger
Technical Specifications
- National scheme requirement: Bunkers must be outside the national scheme area being operated from
- Bunker uniqueness: Each bunker (or B2B combination) claimed once in lifetime
- Valid date range: All dates valid from 1st October 2023 if the bunker worked was on the WWBOTA Master List at the time of the QSO – lifetime achievement
Category-Specific Rules
Hunter/SWL:
- Work bunkers outside the national scheme area being operated from
- Each bunker claimed once in lifetime
- Multi-bunker activations: each bunker in the activation can be claimed separately
- 1 point per bunker
Activator B2B:
- Bunker-to-bunker QSOs must be between different national schemes
- Multi-bunker activations create the ‘combinations’ (all permutations count)
- Each unique B2B combination claimed once in lifetime
- 1 point per B2B combination
Relationship to Other WWBOTA Awards
This award operates independently but can be pursued simultaneously with other WWBOTA awards:
Synergies:
- Annual DXCC Awards: Same bunker contacts contribute to DXCC entity collection
- Annual Activity Awards: Same calendar days with operations count toward activity awards
- Annual Activation Operations Award: Same activation operations count toward activation operations totals
- Lifetime CW Award: CW contacts can count toward both Lifetime Awards and Lifetime CW Award
An operator can work toward multiple award programs with the same operating activities, maximizing recognition for each bunker operation.
Multi-Bunker Activation Considerations
Multi-bunker activations provide significant scoring opportunities:
For Hunters: A 3fer activation in France worked by a Belgian hunter:
- Hunter scores 3 points (one for each bunker)
- Each bunker counts separately for the Lifetime Award
- The same QSOs contribute to other applicable awards
For Activators (B2B): A UK 2fer activation working a Belgian 5fer activation:
- Each activator scores 10 points (2 × 5 = 10 combinations)
- All bunker-to-bunker combinations count
- Each unique combination can only be claimed once in lifetime
- The Activator also scores one Hunter point for each new valid bunker worked
Examples
Example 1 – Hunter:
- Belgian hunter operating from Belgium works UK bunker B/G-0457 on 40m
- Hunter scores: 1 point (UK bunker, outside the Belgian national scheme area)
- If the same hunter later works B/G-0457 again on 20m: 0 additional points (bunker already claimed)
Example 2 – Hunter with Multi-bunker:
- German hunter works a French 4fer activation (4 bunkers simultaneously)
- Hunter scores: 4 points (one for each French bunker)
- All 4 bunkers are now claimed and cannot be claimed again
Example 3 – Activator B2B:
- UK activator at B/G-0100 works Belgian activator at B/ON-0050
- Both activators score: 1 point each (one B2B combination)
- This specific combination (B/G-0100 ↔ B/ON-0050) is now claimed for both operators
- Each activator can also claim one Hunter point if the bunker worked is new to them
Example 4 – Activator B2B Multi-bunker:
- UK activator operating 2 bunkers (B/G-0100 and B/G-0101) simultaneously
- Works Belgian activator operating 3 bunkers (B/ON-0050, B/ON-0051, B/ON-0052) simultaneously
- Both activators score: 6 points each (2 × 3 = 6 combinations), and one hunter point for new bunker worked
- Combinations are:
- B/G-0100 ↔ B/ON-0050
- B/G-0100 ↔ B/ON-0051
- B/G-0100 ↔ B/ON-0052
- B/G-0101 ↔ B/ON-0050
- B/G-0101 ↔ B/ON-0051
- B/G-0101 ↔ B/ON-0052
A single QSO from a 5fer to 5fer if all combinations are new can score both activators 25 Activator B2B points
