International Festival of Bunkers
Background
Following the success of the 2025 International Bunkerfest, WWBOTA presents Winterfest 2026, encouraging global bunker activations and hunting over a fun weekend.
Dates: Weekend 3–4 January 2026 (UTC)
Aims
• Promote the Worldwide Bunkers on the Air (WWBOTA) scheme
• Encourage bunker activations from all WWBOTA member countries
• Encourage worldwide bunker hunting and shortwave listening
• Include amateurs from countries without national bunker schemes as ‘guest countries’
• Have fun activating and chasing
Additional Notes
• Participants are encouraged to share photos or short reports from their activations.
• Winterfest 2026 is intended as a fun, friendly event. It is not a competition and no league table will be produced.
What is ‘Home’ DXCC?
In the examples. Below ‘home DXCC’ does not refer to where someone lives but where the are activating or hunting from.
If a station activation from Wales but lives in England, the home DXCC is Wales not England!

Guest Countries
Just a quick reminder that we welcome guest countries in Winterfest 2026 (3–4 January 2026)!
Guest countries are those that don’t yet have their own national scheme.
To take part, any guest country activator needs to register their bunkers by 15th December at coord@wwbota.org
Registered guest bunkers will receive an official WWBOTA reference number, valid only for Winterfest 2026. If a guest activator later decides to coordinate a national scheme, any temporary references can serve as a good starting point for their list.
