WWBOTA CENTURION AWARDS 2027 - DRAFT

 1. Background and Aim

The Centurion Award recognises operators who work or activate bunkers spanning the full numerical range of over 38,000 WWBOTA references, regardless of country or programme. This is a single, unified award — there are no separate Hunter and Activator awards.

Aim: To encourage participation in both roles: hunting and activating – this is a COMBINED award. (see below for SWL)

There are three awards, running concurrently within this same award:

  • Centurion Award 2027 — All Modes — any band, any mode (including SSB).
  • Centurion Award 2027 — SSB — SSB contacts only.
  • Centurion Award 2027 — SWL — Hunter progress only, for shortwave listeners (see Section 6).

A qualifying SSB contact counts toward both the SSB and All Modes awards simultaneously, since SSB is a subset of all modes. There is no need to work or activate an ending-pair twice to qualify for both SSB and All modes.

2. Event Period

The Centurion Award runs from 1 January 2027 to 31 December 2027 inclusive. Only qualifying contacts made within this period count toward Hunter/Activator slot progress, on either award.

3. The Overview – ending-pairs

Every WWBOTA bunker reference ends in a two-digit number from 00 to 99 (the last two digits of the four-digit numeric part of the reference, irrespective of country prefix). This is the ending-pair.

Examples:

  • B/G-0042 (England) → ending 42
  • B/ON-0042 (Belgium) → ending 42
  • B/DL-0042 (Germany) → ending 42
  • B/EA-0042 (Spain) → ending 42

All four of the above fill the same “42” slot — the award is entirely prefix- and country-agnostic.

A 10 x 10 scoring matrix (bingo card) will be available to participants to check their progress, showing which of the 100 endings (00–99) are filled — one matrix per award.

 4. Scoring

  • An activator requires a minimum of 25 QSO (HF or HF/Mixed), or 10 VHF/UHF QSO for a valid activation. Returns are permissable anytime in 2027 in order to attain the minimum QSO count.
  • Each newly filled slot (Activator AND Hunted, per award) scores 1 point.
  • Maximum possible score per award: 100 points
  • A B2B QSO in addition to counting for an activation QSO for each activator, also scores a hunter QSO for each bunker worked in the B2B QSO.
  • A B2B or Bunker to Hunter QSO can not be scored by working a station at the same bunker.
  • Duplicates do not count. Once an pair-ending is filled on a given award, subsequent QSOs with bunkers sharing that pair-ending do not add further Centurion points on that award — although they are still logged and scored normally under existing WWBOTA rules for other awards
  • There is no separate hunter or activator award, just a combined award.

  • Multi bunker activations are permitted up to a maximum of 5 bunkers per activation (5-fer)

This is a BIG CHALLENGE – and is by design!  You could say that it requires Maximus effort!

Tip: Activators – plan early and consider collaboration with other activators to maximise scoring potential through careful selection and mutual timing of B2B opportunities!

  • Centurion Award 2027 — All Modes is band and mode agnostic — a qualifying contact on any band or mode fills the relevant slot.
  • Centurion Award 2027 — SSB only accepts SSB contacts. A qualifying SSB contact fills the relevant slot on both the SSB award and the All Modes award at the same time. An activator must attain a minimum of 25 SSB QSO to be valid for the SSB point, additional QSO in other modes are permissable, in any QSO sequence.

 5. Tiers

The same tier table applies independently to each award (All Modes and SSB each have their own tier progression): Each tier awarded on reaching the threshold and is retained regardless of subsequent activity (tiers are not lost).

Points / Tier

10 – Bronze
20 – Silver
30 – Gold
40 – Platinum
50 – Diamond
60 – Tribunus
70 – Prefect
80 – Legionary
90 – Praetorian
100 – Centurion

6. Centurion Award 2027 — SWL

Shortwave listeners cannot, by definition, activate a bunker, and so cannot earn Activator progress. To recognise SWL participation properly rather than leaving it as an incomplete version of the main award, Centurion Award 2027 — SWL is a distinct, SWL-only award:

  • SWL progress only — one slot per ending (00–99). Each qualifying report scores 1 point
  • Its own 10 x 10 bingo card, tracking SWL progress only.

 7. Award scores and claims

An award score widget will be available on the WWBOTA Logger webpage no later than 1st January 2027. Awards claims will be via the WWBOTA award claims webapage and will be available for claiming from 1st January 2028. Claims will not be processed if received using any other method, eg. email.

8. Questions and Issues

Any questions about the event, or support issues, should be sent via a WWBOTA Support Ticket.
